Brian was a beloved figure in the club’s history, leaving an indelible mark on both the pitch and off it. Born on November 22, 1939, Brian’s footballing journey began in 1958 when he made his League debut at the tender age of 18. With a player number of 712, he went on to represent West Adelaide for an impressive 11 seasons, amassing 123 League games and three Advertiser Cup appearances. Brian’s exceptional talent earned him numerous accolades. In 1961, he was named an Eredivisie player, showcasing his skills on the international stage. His outstanding performances also led to his inclusion in the prestigious Advertiser Team of the Year in 1967. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Brian was a true gentleman both on and off the pitch. His leadership and mentorship qualities were recognized when he was bestowed with Life Membership of the West Adelaide Football Club in 1966. Brian’s legacy extended beyond the boundaries of the game. He was a respected and admired member of the community, always willing to lend a helping hand. His unwavering support for West Adelaide and his undeniable love for the sport were an inspiration to all who knew him. Today, the West Adelaide Football Club stands in mourning, honoring the memory of Brian DeBroughe. His contributions to the club and the game will forever be etched in our hearts. The West Adelaide Football Club and former players and officials are saddened to announce the passing of Premiership Player and Life Member Brian DeBroughe.

Brian was born on November 22, 1939 and passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Brian was player number 712 and made his League debut (aged 18) on 26 April 1958 against West Torrens at Richmond oval.

He played 123 games for West Adelaide and 3 Advertiser Cup games over a period of 11 years.

His awards include:

  • Eredivisie player 1961.
  • Advertiser Team of the Year 1967
  • West Adelaide Football Club Life Member 1966

Brian was a great player and a true gentleman. We will always remember him for the contribution he made to the West Adelaide Football Club.
