He urged the current players to remain loyal to the club and contribute to its future success. “We must work together and strengthen the team ahead of the Cecafa Kagame Cup and the Caf Champions League,” Owalo said. The CS awarded the club Sh2 million for winning the KPL title, with the players receiving Sh1 million. Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier expressed gratitude for the support provided by Owalo. “When one of us sold our bus, he came to our rescue and bought us a new one,” Rachier said. Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication Technology (ICT), Eliud Owalo, has urged Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia to assert authority at the regional and continental competitions.

Owalo said the traditional Kenyan giants have proven their mettle as continental title contenders after bagging back-to-back top silverware on the local front.

The CS made the comments on Monday while hosting the club at a luncheon at the Carnivore Restuarant in Nairobi.

“Go out and replicate what the class of 1987 did by winning the Mandela Cup,” Owalo noted.

“I would like to congratulate the team for once again making us proud by winning the league, the management and the fans,” he added.

Owalo unveiled a long-term plan to set up a clubhouse for K’Ogalo, saying this would ease pressure on players concerned about accommodation while trading for the side.

“Gor Mahia will have a clubhouse with a training field so players don’t have to worry about where to stay,” Owalo said.

He urged the current crop of players to remain at the club and help them compete for more trophies in the coming seasons.

“Going forward, we must work together and strengthen the team ahead of the Cecafa Kagame Cup and the Caf Champions League,” Owalo said.

“I would urge the players to stick together as we keep an eye on more titles in the coming months,” he added.

The CS awarded the club a total of Sh2 million for clinching the KPL title, with the players getting Sh1 million. The officials pocketed Sh500,000 while the coaches took home Sh300,000. He set aside Sh100,000 for the support staff.

Club honcho Ambrose Rachier praised CS Owalo for supporting the club through thick and thin.

“I would like to thank the CS for always being there for us. We thank him for hosting us. When one of us sold our bus, he came to our rescue and bought us a new one,” said Rachier.

“We also thank our sponsors Sportpesa and Azzam. We thank the technical bank for your dedicated service,” he concluded.
