The move will create 186 new jobs at the Spring Hill facility and expand its current workforce in Tennessee by more than 30%.
OPmobility officials announced Monday that the company will undergo a $3 million expansion at its Spring Hill factory.
The sustainable mobility company’s expansion will create 186 new jobs, compared to just 18 currently in Maury County and 568 statewide, which will help the automotive industry, according to the announcement.
Headquartered in France, OPmobility is a global family-run group with 152 factories in 28 countries. The company has been operating in Tennessee since 2015 with offices in Chattanooga, Smyrna, Spring Hill and Hendersonville.
Officials say the project is a new opportunity for OPmobility to expand its product offering for customers and further support its electric vehicle production lines, according to the announcement.
Gov. Bill Lee and Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development praised the expansion Monday.
“Tennessee has earned a global reputation as one of the best places to do business, not only in the U.S. but around the world. I am grateful that OPmobility has chosen to expand its operations and welcome more jobs and greater opportunities for Tennesseans,” said Lee.
Since 2020, TNECD has supported approximately 15 economic development projects in Maury County, resulting in more than 3,500 jobs and nearly $5 billion in capital investments.
McWhorter said the expansion is further evidence of Tennessee’s automotive boom. Maury County alone is home to the largest General Motors plant in North America, located in Spring Hill, which is also home to the multibillion-dollar Ultium Cells battery plant, which supplies batteries for the Cadillac SUV Lyriq produced at GM Spring Hill.
“It’s clear that Tennessee’s auto industry is booming, and today’s announcement is the latest example of that. We always appreciate foreign investment in this state, and brands like OPmobility help strengthen our reputation as state-friendly to businesses outside our borders.” McWhorter said.
Xavier Maury, OPmobility Operations Director USA, said the factory will continue its efforts to be a top vehicle electrification company.
“OPmobility is excited about the new challenges posed by the overall mobility transformation in the automotive industry. We are proud to pursue our commitment and industry excellence in Tennessee with one of the top OEMs in vehicle electrification,” said Maury.
Sen. Joey Hensley, R-HohenwaldAnd Rep. Kip Capley, R-Summertownboth celebrated the creation of nearly 200 jobs that the expansion will bring to the county and Middle Tennessee.
