Carnarvon Police Senior Sergeant James Bradley said the incident was a reminder of the importance of wearing a lifejacket and being aware of the dangers of fishing from rocks. “The young man was very lucky to have had the lifebuoy there,” he said. “It was only installed recently, and it’s already proven its worth.” The Refishwest lifebuoy is a portable, inflatable device that can be deployed in seconds. It is designed to provide a safe and easy way for people to get out of the water in the event of an emergency. The lifebuoy was installed at Quobba Rocks by the Department of Fisheries in partnership with Refishwest, a not-for-profit organization that works to improve fishing safety in Western Australia.
