The state health department has granted permission for the transplantation, and the private hospital where the surgery will take place has completed preparations. However, a petition related to the case is currently pending before the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (MPHC). The petitioner’s counsel has written to the Chief Justice of the state, seeking permission for organ transplantation at the earliest. A verdict from the HC is expected on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Preeti’s case came to light when she approached doctors to offer her liver to her father, Shivnarayan Batham. Doctors initially refused due to her being underage. However, a medical board later determined that she was medically fit for the procedure. The case has raised legal and ethical questions, as Preeti is not yet considered an adult by law. The MPHC is expected to provide guidance on the matter, considering the urgent need for transplantation and the daughter’s willingness to donate. Meanwhile, the hospital where the surgery will take place awaits the HC’s decision. The father’s condition is reportedly critical, and the transplantation is crucial for his survival. Preeti’s selfless act has brought hope to her family and demonstrated the power of love and compassion.
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state health department on Tuesday gave a nod to minor girl Preeti, who wants to donate part of her liver to her ailing father. Following government orders, the MGM Medical College also approved organ transplantation. However, the judgment of the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (MPHC) on a petition related to the case is still pending.
The petitioner’s counsel Nilesh Manore said they had written a letter to the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh seeking permission for organ transplantation at the earliest. “Considering the urgency of the matter, the HC order is expected on Tuesday evening itself or Wednesday morning,” he added. Meanwhile, the private hospital, where the transplant will take place, has completed preparations for the surgery and is awaiting the HC’s ruling in the case.
Earlier, the director of MY Hospital had submitted the medical board report to the High Court stating that Preeti is medically fit to donate part of her liver to her father. Since the Commissioner (Health) had not submitted his report, the HC had directed him to do the needful within two days or else be personally present in the court to respond on January 27.
What is happening? The liver of Shivnarayan Batham (42), a resident of Betma, has failed and his condition is critical. Since no donor could be found for him, his minor daughter Preeti, who is 17 years and 10 months old, offered to donate a part of her liver to her father. But she is two months short of reaching adulthood (18 years) and the doctors had refused to accede to her request. To this end, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on June 13, requesting the hospital to donate a part of her liver to her father.
