Several trees were uprooted, falling onto homes, cars, and fences. Tree Falls into Home: Around 2:25 p.m., a large pine tree fell into a home in the East Hill neighborhood, crushing the carport and damaging an electrical cable. No injuries were reported. Other Tree-Related Damage: – A tree fell in the Beach Radio parking lot, narrowly missing parked vehicles. – A tree branch fell on a residential fence on 34th Street, causing damage. – A parked car near Beairsto School had its window smashed by a large branch. Power Outage: Just before 2 p.m., a major power outage occurred, affecting over 3,600 businesses and residents. The cause is under investigation, but power was restored around 4 p.m. City Response: The Vernon Fire Department responded to multiple storm-related calls throughout the afternoon. BC Hydro crews were also busy restoring power and addressing other incidents. Environment Canada Warning: Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning earlier in the day, forecasting strong winds and heavy rainfall. A tree also fell into a home in the East Hill neighborhood around 2:25 p.m

“The pine tree with a diameter of over a meter crushed the carport and tore an electricity cable. The storm caused the problem. No injuries were reported,” said Carolyn Baldridge, Vernon’s Communications and Grants Manager Vernon matters.

Meanwhile, downtown, a tree branch fell on a residential fence on 34th Street, causing damage, and a car’s window was hit by a large branch while parked near Beairsto School.

The City of Vernon said the Vernon Fire Department responded to multiple storm/wind related calls.

Just before 2 p.m., a major power outage occurred, affecting more than 3,600 businesses and residents. The cause is being investigated. Power was restored just before 4 p.m
