Every Wednesday evening, as the sun begins its descent, the amphitheater situated within the garden’s embrace transforms into an enchanting stage. The semi-circular platform, adorned with a backdrop of towering oaks, majestic redwoods, and verdant slopes, provides concertgoers with an unparalleled view of the musicians and the breathtaking Mayacamas Mountains in the distance. This “family and Fido-friendly” venue invites patrons to immerse themselves in the tranquil atmosphere, encouraged to bring their picnic baskets and linger for a few hours of musical enchantment. Complementing the mellifluous melodies, a featured local winery each week tantalizes taste buds with its exquisite vintages, enhancing the sensory experience. On the upcoming Wednesday, the musical spotlight shines on Clay Bell, a gifted singer-songwriter from Petaluma. The following week, Dee Coco Johnson will grace the stage with her captivating voice and soulful performances. Beyond the musical allure, the Sonoma Botanical Garden offers an additional artistic treat: the open-air “Ribbit Exhibit.” Until August 31, visitors can marvel at 23 larger-than-life anthropomorphic frogs adorning the visitor area. These whimsical sculptures, playfully placed throughout the gardens, add a touch of whimsy and beauty to the already captivating surroundings. For those seeking a comprehensive cultural experience, the Sonoma Botanical Garden website, sonomabg.org, provides all the necessary details, ensuring a memorable evening filled with music, art, and the serenity of nature.

On a beautiful stretch of hillside estate in Glen Ellen, a new live music venue has blossomed. The Sonoma Botanical Garden has begun hosting concerts in their amphitheater on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. This “family and Fido-friendly” slice of heaven is a wonderful place to hear some fun, dare I say, soft music in any casual and natural setting.

The bands line up on a semi-circular stage at the foot of a grass-covered, terraced slope, surrounded by oaks, madrone, maples and redwoods. The setting offers the music lover an easy view of the musicians and the Mayacamas in the distance.

Visitors are encouraged to make a night of it; bring a picnic and enjoy a few hours. To enhance the experience, each week a different local winery pours its delicious selections.

The musical act next Wednesday is Petaluma recording artist and solo singer-songwriter Clay Bell. Dee Coco Johnson will take the stage next week.

If the music isn’t enough, you can admire the open-air art exhibition ‘Ribbit Exhibit’ until August 31. There are 23 larger-than-life anthropomorphic frogs on display, spread throughout the visitor area. There’s even three of them on stage, just in case a little melody-hopping harmony is needed.
