Shuckers, known for its laid-back atmosphere, waterfront views, and grilled seafood, has been a local favorite since 1989. Located at 1855 79th St. Causeway, it has a loyal following. Palm Tree Crew’s new concept will include a marina with boat slips, dining and boat docks, 118 guest rooms, and a swimming pool adjacent to the hotel and restaurant. Myles Shear, Palm Tree Crew’s co-founder, expressed their admiration for Shuckers and their excitement for the partnership with Continuum Company. Jesta Group, the previous owner of the property, had planned a $300 million renovation to replace Shuckers and the Best Western Hotel with a condo-hotel tower, but sold the property to Continuum in 2024. Palm Tree Crew aims to create a “high-vibe” hospitality experience centered around music and live entertainment. They plan to maintain Shuckers’ casual atmosphere while making cosmetic improvements. Shuckers will remain open until the end of the year before Palm Tree Club takes over.

The era of Shuckers, the laid-back restaurant and bar that has been on the water in North Bay Village since 1989, is coming to an end.

In partnership with Continuum Company, Palm Tree Crew, an entertainment company co-founded by Norwegian DJ and music producer Kygo, has announced it will acquire Shuckers Waterfront Grill & Hotel to open its first waterfront restaurant and hotel.

Located at 1855 79th St. Causeway, Shuckers is known for its easy-going atmosphere, close proximity to the bay (it’s not unusual to see a dolphin or two cruising for a bite), and beautiful sunset views. It’s known for its simple menu of grilled wings and seafood, plus a popular prime rib sandwich.

The restaurant also made news in 2013 when the deck collapsed during a Miami Heat game during the NBA Finals, injuring 33 people.

The new concept for the property includes a marina with 20 slips, dining and boat docks, 118 guest rooms and a swimming pool adjacent to the hotel and restaurant.

Myles Shear, co-founder of Palm Tree Crew, said Miami – in this case North Bay Village – embodies the spirit of the company.

“We have long admired Shuckers as an important part of the Miami hospitality ecosystem, and we feel privileged to partner with Continuum Company to take this property into a new chapter,” he said.

This was not the original plan for the renovation of the building. In 2023, Montreal real estate investment firm Jesta Group received final approval for its $300 million plan to raze Shuckers and the Best Western Hotel and rebuild the neighborhood watering hole, plus add a new condo-hotel tower . But in 2024, Jesta sold the property to Continuum.

At the time of the 2023 approval, Anthony O’Brien, Jesta’s senior managing director, told the Miami Herald that the company planned to find a temporary location for the restaurant in North Bay Village or the North Beach community in Miami Beach until the new Shuckers was installed. finished.

Now Palm Tree Crew, founded in 2020, wants to create a different, more vibrant kind of atmosphere, part of what they call ‘high-vibe’ hospitality. The brand is known for specializing in highlighting live music.

Palm Tree Crew CEO Michael Diaz said the brand’s move into the world of hospitality was a continuation of its success.

“Our vision was to create unique experiences around the world, centered around music and the highest level of hospitality,” he said. “It’s been exciting to curate a lifestyle platform for our customers through live events and festivals, and we’ve found our audience wanting more.”

Nothing will change for Shuckers and its loyal customers in the near future. The restaurant will remain open until the end of the year, after which Palm Tree Club will take over. The company will make cosmetic improvements, but plans to maintain the restaurant’s patio and casual atmosphere.
