Driving License and Registration Card Delays in BengaluruDriving License and Registration Card Delays in Bengaluru Despite passing their driving tests, many individuals in Bengaluru are facing significant delays in receiving their driving licenses (DLs) and registration certificate (RC) smart cards. This backlog is attributed to the accumulation of these cards at the transportation department, reportedly due to the negligence of transport officials. Sources from the department have disclosed that the DLs and RCs are piling up at their offices, awaiting dispatch through the postal department. However, the lethargy of transport officials has resulted in these cards being left unattended at these offices. Concerned individuals have expressed frustration about the prolonged wait for their DLs, even weeks after successfully completing their tests. A 22-year-old resident of Rajajinagar RTO, who passed his driving test at Peenya, has yet to receive his DL after a month and a half. The state transport department has partnered with the Karnataka Postal Circle to collect and deliver DLs and RCs through Speedpost from the 67 RTOs in the state. Despite this agreement, significant delays in dispatching these essential documents continue to occur. Transport Commissioner Yogeesh has recently held a meeting to address the complaints and concerns raised regarding these delays. RTOs have been instructed to prioritize the dispatch of DLs and RCs and ensure that they are posted as soon as they are generated. Officials have been given a deadline to clear the backlog by the end of the month.

BENGALURU: While many who have completed their driving test are waiting for their DLs, those who have also registered their new vehicles are looking forward to their registration certificate (RC) smart cards. But these cards are at the transportation department. Department sources revealed that the smart cards are just piling up and they have to be sent through the postal department but due to the lethargy of transport officials, they are lying at these offices.
Many wonder why their DLs have yet to reach their homes even weeks after completing the test. A 22-year-old youth, whose domicile falls under the Rajajinagar Regional Transport Office (RTO), had appeared for the driving test at the Peenya driving test track and cleared the test. “I appeared for the test at the beginning of May. It has been more than one and a half months and I have not received the DL yet,” he complained. This is the case for many waiting for their DLs and RC cards.
The state transport department has entered into an agreement with the Karnataka Postal Circle to collect mails from the DLs and RCs at the 67 RTOs in the state and deliver them through Speedpost.
A transport ministry official said they have also received complaints about delays in installing DLs and RCs. Recently, Transport Commissioner Yogeesh held a meeting and took public officials to task.
“All RTOs have been asked to post the collected DLs and RCs by the end of this month. They should post the smart cards as soon as they are generated and there should be no delay,” the official said.
