The accident occurred around 1 am when the soldiers were crossing the Bodhi River at Mandir Morh, 148 kilometers from Leh. The tank, a T-72, was suddenly submerged as the water level rose rapidly. Among the deceased is a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). The soldiers were on a training mission at the time of the incident. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences and said, “Heartbroken over the loss of lives of five of our brave Indian soldiers… The nation will remember their exemplary service.” The cause of the accident is under investigation.

One of the five people killed in the accident that took place around 1am is a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
The soldiers were on a training mission and were crossing the Bodhi River at Mandir Morh, 148 kilometers from Leh, on their T-72 tank when suddenly the water level started rising, official sources said. Soon, the tank and soldiers were submerged in the swelling river, they added.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh led the nation in mourning the deaths and said, “Heartbroken over the loss of lives of five of our brave Indian soldiers in an unfortunate accident while transporting the tank across a river in Ladakh. We will remember the exemplary service of our brave soldiers to the nation never forgotten. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands with them in this hour of grief,” he posted on X.
