Obituary of Gwendolyn Merle JessimanObituary of Gwendolyn Merle Jessiman It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gwendolyn Merle Jessiman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Gwen was born in Wapella, Saskatchewan, and moved to Fort William, Ontario, in 1947, where she left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Gwen’s life was a testament to love and devotion. She was the loving wife of Gary, to whom she was married for nearly 63 years, expanding their high school romance into a lifetime of shared memories. Her parents, Margaret and Harold Metheral, instilled in her the values of family and community that she carried with her throughout her life. Gwen’s passion for education led her to a career in teaching, which she embraced until the birth of her first child. After that, her family became her world, and she poured her love into her children Kevin (Brenda), Darcy (Sandy), Darren, and Loreen Warner (Bob). Her joy multiplied with each grandchild—Courtney Brand (Scott), Bryan (Jasmine), Mitchell (Brittany), Derek (Sarah), Riley, and Dylan—and great-grandchildren Corbin, Benny, Annabelle, Wynn, Charlotte, Sawyer, Macy, Max, and Ami. In addition to her family, Gwen enjoyed curling, weaving, knitting, glassware, time at the lake, and winters away. Gwen’s sister Joyce Russell (Tony), her sister-in-law Cheryl Gleeson (Lorne), and brother-in-law Tom (Patricia) were an integral part of her life, as were the nieces and nephews she loved. Her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins held a special place in her heart. Remembered for her unwavering love, Gwen made sure that every family member knew how important they were to her. Her friendships were many and deep, and the family is truly grateful for the support and companionship they provided. The world has indeed become a better place because of Gwen. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. We would like to thank the staff at Thunder Bay Regional HSC, especially the Emergency and Ward 2C teams, for their exceptional care and compassion during her final days. Gwen’s spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. An event to celebrate her life will be announced later, where we will honor her memory and all she meant to us. Arrangements are under the care of Northwest Funeral Alternative. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent via www.nwfainc.com
