The residents escaped the homes unharmed, but one of the family’s pets tragically perished in the blaze. Three firefighters responding to the incident were hospitalized due to heat-related issues. They have since been released and are recovering well. The fire erupted in a building on Reliance Street around 5 p.m. on Friday, spreading rapidly to an adjacent home. Intense heat also caused minor damage to nearby structures. “Our hearts are heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the families affected by the devastating fire,” the City of Inuvik stated on Facebook. “We express our deepest gratitude to the brave firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect our community.” The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the fire chief.
The Inuvik Fire Department has confirmed that no lives were lost in the fire that destroyed two homes in Inuvik on Friday.
The residents were able to leave the homes safely, but firefighters confirmed that one of the family’s pets died in the fire.
Three of the 22 Inuvik firefighters who responded to the blaze were also sent to the hospital “due to heat-related issues resulting from the environmental factors that occurred during the incident,” the Inuvik Fire Department (IFD) wrote in a statement Saturday morning Facebook was posted.
All three firefighters have been released and are doing well.
Firefighters responded to a fire in a building on Reliance Street, at the corner of Inuit Road, around 5 p.m. Friday evening.

“Due to the proximity of the building in question and the intense heat from the rapid progression of the fire, an adjacent home on Reliance Street became involved prior to the arrival of firefighting equipment,” the IFD explained, noting that the two homes already on fire when crews arrived could not be saved.
Several nearby buildings also suffered minor damage from the fire’s radiant heat.
“Our hearts are heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the families affected by the devastating fire,” the City of Inuvik wrote on Facebook. “We would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all the brave men and women who have worked tirelessly to keep our community safe.”
The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the fire chief.
