Eureka Boys and Girls Club Facility in the WorksEureka Boys and Girls Club Facility in the Works The Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is exploring the possibility of establishing a new facility in Eureka. Mike Wurm, the club’s president and CEO, provided details on the early planning stages. To secure funding for the project, the club will follow the federal procurement process and select a prime contractor. Once that step is complete, state funds allocated through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) will become available. ARPA, passed by Congress in March 2021, created funds to assist states and local governments in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Eureka Boys and Girls Club has been planning a new facility for several years, but the exact timeline for the project has not yet been determined. The facility will be designed based on community needs and the amount of funding raised. It aims to cater to pre-school and school-aged children, with staffing consisting of a combination of paid staff and volunteers. As of now, the location of the Boys and Girls Club in Eureka has not been disclosed.
The Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows may open a new facility in Eureka. Mike Wurm, the club’s president and CEO, provided insight into the early planning stages. He said, “The most important thing now is to follow the federal procurement process and choose a prime contractor. Once we do that, we can tap the state funds for the project. The funds are State of Nevada ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds designated by the Governor and approved by the Finance Commission.”
ARPA was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 11, 2021. This law created the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund and the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund. Both funds were established to assist states in the COVID-19 recovery process.
Wurm further stated that while the Eureka Boys and Girls Club has been in the planning stages for a few years, they have not yet set a schedule but hope to begin the process as soon as possible.
He noted: “The building is still in design, but will be based on the needs of the community and the final amount of money raised. The intention is to meet the needs of pre-school and school-age children. It will be staffed by a combination of paid staff and volunteers, based on meeting the needs and the final design of the building.”
Mr. Wurm did not comment on a possible location for the Boys and Girls Club.
