After a 10-year hiatus, the One VI Music Festival took place for the first time on June 28 at Cane Garden Bay Beach, where the festival was packed with visitors.

The festival kicked off with a mix of local and international acts including Sistah Joyce, A Team Band, Farmer Nappy, Mical Teja and Tarrus Riley.

Virgin Islands native Sistah Joyce set the tone for the event with her Calypso tunes. A Team Band played popular soca songs from various artists, followed by Farmer Nappy, who started his performance with the popular groove “Hooking Meh”. Mical Teja, known as the winner of this year’s road march, performed “DNA”, forcing the crowd to wave their indigenous flags as he sang the famous phrase, “no place like home”. A Team Band, Farmer Nappy and Mical Teja are all from Trinidad & Tobago.

The evening concluded with the highly anticipated performance of Jamaican reggae singer Tarrus Riley. He held a moment of silence and sang a tune in honor of the late Peetah Morgan of the Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage. He then dove into a thrilling set, performing one of his new viral songs, “Life Affi Nice.”

Tarrus Riley consistently praised the atmosphere and expressed his love for the Virgin Islands both during and after his performance.

The first evening enjoyed a well-engaged crowd, with vendors belonging to some of the sponsors including Paradise Club, Quito and Kimberly Rhymer, whose establishments were conveniently located at the venue or nearby.

Other sponsors included the Government of the Virgin Islands, Bellows International BVI, KT Productions, The Wellness Center Clinics, Cre8tiveArts Branding School, Driftwood Spa, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, Infinite Solutions, Nagico, Casamigos, Johnny Walker and Botella.

The One VI Music Festival will close on June 29 with performances by Jamaican artists Masicka and Protoje and US Virgin Islands native Revalation Da Royal.

As part of the festivities, the One VI Poker Run is scheduled for June 30, with prizes worth $16,000 to be won. The meeting will take place at the Paradise Beach Club.
