According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash on West Union Road near Northwest 15th Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Investigators determined that the driver, identified as 25-year-old Christopher Smith of Hillsboro, was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle. The car left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned. A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Ashley Johnson of Tigard, was injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown. Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII). He was also cited for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. The crash downed power lines in the area, causing outages for residents. Crews from Pacific Power worked to restore power as quickly as possible. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
