LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man has reportedly confessed to strangling and then sexually assaulting a sex worker in a hotel room, prompting him to turn himself in and face murder charges, 8 News Now investigators have learned.
Larissa Garcia died on June 21, more than a week after the June 12 incident at the Palms Casino Resort, documents said. Garcia used the names “Andrea” and “Dallas” in online escort ads, sources said.
On Friday afternoon, Jason Kendall, 35, surrendered to police at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police headquarters, where officers arrested him on charges of open murder, sexual assault and assault by strangulation to commit sexual assault, documents said. The 8 News Now Investigators first reported Kendall’s arrest Friday night.

On June 12, Kendall called police to report a woman overdosing in a Palms hotel room, documents show. Hotel security responded to the room and found Garcia on the floor with a cut on her jaw. Police initially did not respond as Kendall reported Garcia had overdosed.
At the hospital, doctors determined that there was no alcohol or drugs in Garcia’s blood and that an overdose was not possible. Doctors then suspected that Garcia was the victim of abuse, the documents said.
Video surveillance from the Palms shows Kendall meeting Garcia in the lobby around 4 p.m., documents say. About an hour later, the video shows Kendall leaving the room and the hotel alone, with no one else entering or leaving the room until security arrived. Detectives later found messages between Kendall and Garcia and a web history of Kendall viewing Garcia’s escort ad, documents say.
Police later encountered Kendall at another hotel, where he requested a lawyer and refused to provide any information. However, police noted that Kendall had injuries to his back and shoulder.
On June 18, six days after the incident at the Palms, a nurse specializing in sexual abuse investigations found that Garcia had been strangled and “possibly asphyxiated,” the documents say. Garcia died at the hospital on June 21 after a doctor declared her brain dead.

On Friday, Kendall went to the police station to report an assault, the documents said. In the report, Kendall confessed to “strangulation and sexual assault,” the documents said. Kendall told police he paid Garcia $2,000 to have sex.
“Jason said Larissa asked for extra payment and that he ‘snapped,’” the documents state. “He punched her in the face and ‘choked’ her for ‘ten minutes’ and then ‘had sex with her.’ After having sex with Larissa, Jason wrote that he ‘pushed her away from the door and left.’ After leaving the hotel, he called police to report an overdose.”

It was unclear from the documents obtained by 8 News Now investigators on Monday at what point Kendall knew Garcia was dead, or if he even knew before he turned himself in.
The Clark County coroner’s office said it had no information to provide about Garcia’s death Monday. The office will not release information under certain circumstances, including if officials cannot locate next of kin.

Garcia is a mother of two and attended school, friends told 8 News Now.
Kendall is an Army veteran, sources said.
While Metro Police issue press releases for every homicide, the department typically does not issue press releases for delayed deaths. The department officially released news of Kendall’s arrest on Saturday, a day after the original report by the 8 News Now Investigators.
Kendall made his first court appearance Saturday afternoon, where the judge ordered him held without bail until his next court appearance, scheduled for Tuesday.
