Patrie was identified as the prime suspect in Gallmeyer’s death, but before local officials could pursue his case, he was sentenced to life in federal prison in 2014 on firearms charges and for being a career criminal. In 2018, Patrie was re-sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, allowing Chickasaw County to resume efforts to prosecute and convict him.
