A young woman weighing 36 kg had a spleen removed weighing 2.5 kg at Erode Gem Hospital without any severe bleeding.

On June 16, she was admitted to Gem Hospital for treatment. Dr KL Sathishkumar, a gastroenterologist at the hospital, diagnosed her and found that she had been suffering from low red blood cell and platelet counts in her blood for years due to inflammation of the spleen.

So on June 19, Yogambal underwent surgery and her spleen was removed. The spleen, which should weigh 250 grams on average, weighs 2.5 kg in the woman’s body.
