These programs, administered by the North-Central West Virginia Community Action Association, the Eastern Panhandle Instructional Cooperative, and the Greenbrier County Board of Education, provide essential services for the educational and developmental well-being of children from birth to age 5. Head Start programs focus on promoting early learning, emotional development, health, safety, and family well-being. They provide children with the skills and foundation necessary for success in future educational and life endeavors. Senator Manchin emphasized the importance of access to quality education for all West Virginia children, regardless of their socio-economic status or location. He expressed his commitment to advocating for funding to support educational opportunities throughout the state. CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) – a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee – announced Tuesday $16,052,683 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for three Head Start programs administered by the North-Central West Virginia Community Action Association, the Eastern Panhandle Instructional Cooperative and the Greenbrier County Board of Education. Head Start promotes the educational growth of children from birth to age 5 through services that provide early learning and emotional development, health and safety, and promote family well-being.

“Every child in West Virginia deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their background or where they live in our great state,” said Senator Manchin. “I am pleased that HHS is investing more than $16 million to support these critical Head Start programs, which provide the children they serve with the skills and foundation they need for a brighter future. As a longtime supporter of Head Start programs and a member of the Senate Budget Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support educational opportunities for children across the Mountain State.”
