St. Thomas police say officers and firefighters are investigating a death in the city Wednesday morning.
In a statement, police officials said emergency services were on scene near the intersection of Hiawatha and Curtis streets. Morning road closures were expected in that area, police said, as the investigation continued.
“Please avoid the area as police are conducting an investigation into the death of the individual,” police said in a statement, adding that more details will be released as they become available.

Motorcyclist injured in crash on 401 freeway
A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 401 east of London, Ontario Provincial Police reported Tuesday night.
OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said the crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the highway, just east of Dorchester Road. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with what police described as serious injuries.
The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. and involved a motorcycle and an SUV, Sanchuk said, adding that the investigation slowed traffic and caused miles of backups.
Sanchuk urged passing drivers to pay attention to the road ahead and not the wreck.
“We’ve seen people taking pictures, we’ve seen people looking around,” he said in a video statement posted on social media. “Do yourself a favor: get where you need to go safely and, more importantly, get home safely to your family.”
