The Durham County Sheriff’s Office served the guest with an eviction notice on Wednesday morning. ABC11, which broke the story in early June, spoke with the property owner, Farzana Rahman, who shared that the guest had initially booked a long-term stay from October 25, 2023, through May 24. However, upon May’s end, the guest declined to leave. Rahman was forced to file legal proceedings to have the guests removed. “I want them gone,” she stated in June. “I don’t know if they’ve trashed the place or not. We won’t know until they leave.” After numerous attempts and legal hearings, a Durham County court hearing culminated in a judge siding with Rahman and ordering the eviction. The guest failed to attend the hearing. “Nobody should have to go through this,” said Rahman’s assistant, Jane Miller, who was present during the eviction notice service. “You would expect people to understand the rules and follow them, but that’s just not the case here.” The guest was reportedly polite during the police presence, but expressed significant distress. Miller emphasized the inexcusable nature of the guest’s behavior. The locks on the building have been changed, and Rahman and Miller hope this ordeal has finally come to an end. ABC11 has not received any updates from Airbnb since the eviction, but previous reports indicated the company was working to compensate the host for the additional nights and any damages.

DURHAM, NC — The Airbnb guest who refused to leave his North Carolina home more than a month ago has been evicted.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office served the Airbnb guest with an eviction notice Wednesday morning.

ABC11 broke the story in early June and spoke with the owner of the property, who said the Airbnb guest had booked a long-term stay from Oct. 25, 2023, through May 24. However, once May ended, the guest refused to leave.

Airbnb host, Farzana Rahman, had to take the guests to court to get them out.

“I want them gone. I don’t know if they’ve trashed the place or not, I have no idea. We won’t know until they leave,” she said in June.

A month-long Airbnb rental has turned into a nightmare for the host as the tenants refuse to leave.

After several attempts and several legal proceedings, it all came down to a court hearing in Durham County. Rahman showed up for the hearing, but the guest did not. The judge sided with Rahman and ordered the eviction.

“Nobody should have to go through this. You would expect people to understand the rules and follow them, but that’s just not the case here,” Rahman’s assistant Jane Miller said Wednesday.

Miller was present when officers arrived to serve the eviction notice.

“The guest was very polite when the police were here. She was clearly upset and trying to get as much out of it as she could in those 10 minutes, but there’s really no excuse for this type of behavior,” Miller said.

The locks on the building have been changed and Rahman and Miller hope this ordeal is finally over.

ABC11 has not heard from Airbnb since the eviction, but in our previous reporting the company said it was working to ensure the host would be compensated for the extra nights the guest stayed, as well as for any damages or additional cleaning.
