Power of Washington Freedom for MLC 2024
Variety and depth among recruits from abroad
The Washington Freedom have recruited a number of high-quality foreign players for the 2024 MLC season. These recruits will give them strength for the season, along with variety and flexibility to field teams based on the strength of the opponent and playing conditions.
Steven Smith, Travis Head and Rachin Ravindra provide stability at the top of the team, while Glenn Maxwell, together with Andries Gous, provides more firepower in the middle of the team.
In the bowling department they have Akeal Hosein in the spin department, with Lockie Ferguson, Andre Tye and Marco Jansen rounding out the pace front. A general look suggests they have plenty of resources to use depending on playing conditions and they operate a ‘horses for courses’ policy.
Washington Freedom Weaknesses for MLC 2024
Lack of experience in the spinning department
Akeal Hosein will be leading the spin department of the team. Apart from leading this aspect of the team, he will have the major part of the task of controlling the opposition in the middle overs and taking wickets. There is a dearth of experienced spinners in the team and the captain will have to turn to Glenn Maxwell and even Rachin Ravindra to get some efficient overs in the middle overs.
Over-reliance on Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell for power shots
Most of the batters on the Washington Freedom are like sluggers. They need time to settle in before they switch gears. The Freedom will therefore be overly dependent on Travis Head up top and Glenn Maxwell in the middle to increase the team’s scoring rate.
