Liverpool Now Has More Employees Than Manchester UnitedLiverpool Now Has More Employees Than Manchester United Liverpool has gained an advantage over its arch-rivals, Manchester United, in one specific category: the number of employees. This advantage has been brought about by Manchester United’s recent staff cuts, which are expected to reduce the club’s workforce by 250 people, leaving it with only 862 employees. In contrast, Liverpool currently has 1,008 employees, making it the club with the most employees in the Premier League. This staff reduction is part of a wider restructuring effort at Manchester United, which has included the appointment of Dan Ashworth as Director of Football and Omar Berrada as CEO. The cuts are reportedly aimed at saving the club around £10m per season and reducing its wage bill to £321m, still significantly less than Liverpool’s total of £373m. Despite having a higher wage bill, Manchester United’s performances on the pitch have not kept pace with Liverpool’s in recent years. Liverpool has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup under Jürgen Klopp, while Manchester United has not won a major trophy since 2017. The staff cuts may be a sign that the club is looking to make significant changes in order to close the gap on its rivals.

Liverpool now have an advantage over arch-rivals Manchester United in one particular category.

Liverpool have enjoyed an advantage over United on the pitch in recent years, but the Red Devils hope the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as co-owner can turn the tide.

Ratcliffe bought a 27 percent stake in the club from the Glazer family earlier this year and has made an immediate impression.

The INEOS billionaire faced criticism after he threatened employees with redundancy if they refused to work in the office instead of from home.

And unlike the Glazers, the 71-year-old has made a number of public appearances, including criticising the Premier League’s financial rules.

His latest move is the most controversial so far.

Man United staff cuts make Liverpool the club with the most employees

According to The Athletic, Ratcliffe is to cut 250 jobs behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

It is believed that the cuts will affect almost all departments of the club.

It follows the appointments of Dan Ashworth as Director of Football and Omar Berrada as CEO, alongside a host of other new additions behind the scenes.

According to the two clubs’ calculations, cutting 250 jobs would leave United with just 862 employees, while Liverpool would be left with 1,008.

United used to have the most employees of any Premier League club, but now Liverpool have that status.

Football financier Stefan Borson estimated in an article on X that United would save around £10m per season from the mass exodus.

That would reduce the company’s total wage budget to £321m, £52m less than Liverpool’s total.

How do United and Liverpool’s salaries compare to other clubs?

However, it is likely that this number will have risen by the time they publish their figures for the 2023-24 season, reflecting their return to the Champions League, where performance-related bonuses are a factor.

Ratcliffe is trying to move the club more in that direction with an incentive structure similar to the model used by clubs like Liverpool.
