The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top, blue jeans, and dreadlocks. IMPD officers are maintaining a heavy presence in the area while they search for the suspect. Residents are advised to avoid the area until the investigation is complete.
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were shot at on the city’s east side Thursday.
Thursday at 3:30 p.m., IMPD officers were searching for a suspect wanted on a warrant in a separate investigation near the 5100 block of East 20th Place. When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fled on foot, leading officers on foot in pursuit. During the foot chase, officers were shot at at least once.
No officers were injured in the shooting and no officers returned fire.
Investigators described the suspect as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, wearing a black tank top, blue jeans and dreadlocks just above the shoulders. Investigators say officers will be in the area with a large presence in the near future. Investigators are asking residents to stay away from the area for the time being.
