During a conference in Lagos, NUPENG’s National Chairman, Williams Akporeha, emphasized the discussions with Dangote Refinery despite its recent commencement of operations. Akporeha stressed the importance of involving NUPENG members in the distribution process at full scale. Additionally, Akporeha appealed to the federal and state governments to improve road conditions for tanker drivers, especially during the rainy season. He urged the implementation of mitigating measures to facilitate driver mobility and product distribution. The government’s readiness to resume operations at the Port Harcourt refinery in July was also mentioned with optimism.
Switches on Dangote refinery
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called on oil tanker transport (PTD) drivers to ensure effective distribution of petroleum products in the country.
This comes as the oil workers said they have commenced discussions with Dangote Refinery to ensure that NUPENG is also part of the distribution process of oil products across the country.
The National Chairman of NUPENG, Williams Akporeha, said this during a special conference of delegates of the PTD chapter of NUPENG held in Lagos, where Augustine Egbon emerged as the National Chairman of PTD.
He said that despite the fact that the Dangote refinery has only just started operations, NUPENG as a union has started discussions with the management to ensure that the involvement of its members in the distribution process is at full speed.
Akporeha urged the federal and state governments to make the country’s roads passable for tanker drivers transporting petroleum products for distribution across the country, especially now that the rainy season is at its peak.
As part of efforts to address the challenges on the road, the NUPENG leader urged the government to implement mitigating measures to allow drivers to move freely.
According to him, tanker drivers cannot move their products seamlessly across the country without good roads. Akporeha expressed optimism about the federal government’s readiness to get the Port Harcourt refinery operational again in July.
