Kai Sotto Hospitalized After Rib Injury in Gilas Pilipinas LossKai Sotto Hospitalized After Rib Injury in Gilas Pilipinas Loss Gilas Pilipinas center Kai Sotto has been taken to the hospital for a rib examination following an injury sustained in Thursday’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament loss to Georgia. Coach Tim Cone disclosed that Sotto underwent an X-ray to assess the severity of the injury, which sidelined him for the remainder of the game. “He is in the hospital checking out his rib,” Cone stated in the post-game press conference. “We don’t have any news on that yet on how far or whether he will be able to go forward.” The injury occurred during the second quarter when Sotto collided with Joe Thomasson while attempting a post-up shot. Sotto played 11 minutes, contributing four points and two blocks before leaving the game. Despite Sotto’s absence, Gilas found support from other players, including Carl Tamayo, CJ Perez, Kevin Quiambao, and veteran Japeth Aguilar. These players stepped up to fill the void left by Sotto’s injury. “The fact that we lost him as well and still able to fight our way back in the game, we got some real bench production from Carl Tamayo, CJ Perez, Kevin Quiambao, and Japeth Aguilar our veteran and captain,” Cone said. “They stepped into the void and gave us big minutes in what would have been Kai’s minutes.” The extent of Sotto’s injury and his availability for future games in the tournament are still unknown. Gilas is expected to release updates as they become available.
