The 26-year-old Miranda began his historic streak against the Houston Astros, starting the game with a swift single. As the innings progressed, he continued to torment Astros pitchers, rattling off hits in each of his subsequent at-bats. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins designated hitter José Miranda set a team record with hits in 10 consecutive at-bats on Friday night.

Miranda broke the Twins record of nine consecutive hits, set in 1967 by Tony Oliva and tied by Mickey Hatcher in 1985 and Todd Walker in 1998.

The highest record for consecutive hits is 12, held by Walt Dropo of Detroit (1952), Pinky Higgins of Boston (1938) and Johnny Kling of the Chicago Cubs (1902).

The 26-year-old Miranda began the game against the Houston Astros with hits in six consecutive at bats and also had hits in each of his four at bats before being replaced by a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning.

Miranda finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He was hitting .296 before Wednesday night’s game when the streak began and has raised his average to .324.

He singled in the second inning and a 414-foot home run to left field in the third. Miranda tied the Twins’ record of nine straight hits with a two-run double in the fifth. He hit his record-tying 10th consecutive hit — a single to right field — in the seventh.

With the Twins trailing 13-5 in the ninth inning, Miranda was replaced by Austin Martin, who singled.
