Koeman took a gamble by starting Steven Bergwijn against Romania, but that had little effect. He replaced the player at half-time in favour of Malen, who then scored twice and secured his starting place.

Turkey were also inconsistent, but showed flashes of enthusiasm, led by talented youngster Arda Guler. They defeated debutant Georgia in a classic, but were then swept aside by Portugal. As a result, they were only able to exploit their numerical advantage late in the match against the Czech Republic, before profiting from a chaotic start against an out-of-form Austria.
We expect a very entertaining match with plenty of action and incident, overshadowed by the Netherlands, with Liverpool’s Gakpo undoubtedly playing a leading role again.

The Dutch hold a slight lead when it comes to the best head-to-head matches of all time. In September 2021, they beat Turkey 6-1 in their last meeting in World Cup qualifying, with Memphis Depay scoring a hat-trick.
