The accused, Mihir Shah, was driving the BMW when it struck a couple on a scooter from behind in Worli. The woman, Kaveri Nakhava, was pronounced dead at Nair Hospital, while her husband remains hospitalized. According to DCP Krishna Kant Upadhyay, Shah, his father Rajesh Shah (a Shiv Sena leader), and the driver, Rajshree Rajendrasingh Bidawat, have been arrested. Police are investigating whether Mihir Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. CCTV footage is being examined to determine if Nakhava was dragged by the car. Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act. The abandoned BMW was recovered from Kalanagar, Bandra. Maharashtra Home Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the incident and promised strict action against the culprits. “The Mumbai Hit & Run case is unfortunate and sad,” Shinde said. “No one will be spared and everyone is equal before the law. The police are investigating the case and strict action will be taken.” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also emphasized that the law applies equally to all, regardless of political affiliations. “The government sees every case in the same way. There will be no separate rule for this accident,” Thackeray said. “The police will not protect anyone. The Mumbai accident is unfortunate. I have spoken to the police to take strict action.”

Mumbai police have arrested the Shiv Sena leader, the father of the accused and the driver, who were both in the BMW when the accident took place.

Mumbai: Police have started action in the case where a BMW hit a pair of cyclists at high speed and the woman was killed. The accident took place early Sunday morning in Worli after which the couple was taken to the hospital. However, the woman died during treatment in the hospital.

Addressing a press conference on the incident, DCP Krishna Kant Upadhyay said that both the victims were on their way to Worli Koliwada on a scooter and were hit from behind by a BMW car. “After the accident, the victims were rushed to Nair Hospital, Kaveri Nakhava was declared brought dead,” he added.

The DCP said two people have been arrested Rajesh Shah (Leader of the Shiv Sena) and the person who was in the car at the time of the accident, Rajshree Rajendrasingh Bidawat. When asked if Mihir Shah is on the run, the DCP said they are investigating and added that he is an adult.

Asked if Mihir had consumed alcohol and who was driving the car, DCP Upadhyay said investigation is underway. He said police are checking CCTV footage to ascertain if the woman was dragged by the car.

“We have registered a case under Sections 105, 281, 125(B), 238, 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanghita and 184, 134(A), 134(B), 187 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The DCP informed the media that the car was abandoned in Kalanagar, Bandra and that they had seized it from there.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Home Minister Eknath Shinde said the culprits will not be spared and strict action will be taken against them.

“The Mumbai Hit & Run case is unfortunate and sad, I have spoken to the police about this, no one will be spared and everyone is equal before the law. The police are investigating the case and strict action will be taken against the culprit,” Shinde said.

Asked if the man involved in the Mumbai accident was the son of a Shiv Sena leader, the CM said, “The law is the same for everyone and the government sees every case in the same way. There will be no separate rule for this accident. Everything will be done according to law… The police will not protect anyone. The Mumbai accident is unfortunate. I have spoken to the police to take strict action.”
