Navarro dominates Gauff in American clash

A thrilling start with both players holding strong service games until 2-2. Then Navarro had trouble with her first serve, which cost her dearly against one of the best returners on tour, who paused to praise as a sign of her favoritism in the preview.

Gauff’s lead did not last long as she failed to consolidate the break and quickly lost her lead in the next game with the first chance she gave her opponent. In the 10th game, Navarro took advantage of a couple of break chances to take a 6-4 lead after 41 minutes of play.

The world number 17 picked up the pace in the second set, while Gauff started to get frustrated and made uncharacteristic errors. Navarro had a first serve percentage of 84% and won 70% of her first serves, while Gauff only managed to hit 54% of her first serves.
