Gypsy Rose Blanchard looks at her recently announced pregnancy as a fresh start and a way to break the cycle of abuse.

A day after she shared the news that she and her boyfriend, Know Urkerwill soon welcome their first child — seven months after her release from prison and three months later filing for divorce from her estranged husbandRyan Anderson — the 32-year-old TLC star is opening up about the upcoming arrival of her little miracle. In an interview with PeopleGypsy shares in depth how she found out she was pregnant, why she’s so excited to become a mother, and what steps she plans to take to give her son or daughter a better life than she had.

“Everything I ever wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” Gypsy explains. “My mother told me I would never get married, have a family, have children, or anything like that. So to be here, standing on my own two feet and expecting my first baby, that’s something I’ve accomplished as an accomplishment and a personal goal. I thank God every day that I now have this second chance at life with a child of my own.”

Gypsy rose to fame after her life was the subject of a Hulu series starring Joey King And Patricia Arquette. The deed told the story of Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who deliberately made Gypsy sick and fictitiously reported that her daughter had multiple illnesses in order to receive charity. After finding out, Gypsy plotted with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder her mother.

Hulu’s dramatized story of a survivor of Munchausen by proxy and her mother’s murder captivated millions and earned two Emmy nominations. Arquette, who played Dee Dee, even won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series in 2019. Gypsy was still in prison at the time of the series, having been sentenced to 10 years for her role in the crime. She was eventually released in December after seven years, while Godejohn remains in prison and is serving a life sentence.

She explains that she wants to avoid a similar (and incredibly rare) scenario with her own baby, Gypsy, who is due in January 2025, almost a decade after her mother was murdered in June 2015 at the age of 48. She says she hopes to be the best mother she can be, because she knows better than anyone what not To do.

Gypsy tells the outlet, “The way my mother raised me is absolutely not the way I’m going to be. We always say for the next generation that we want to be better than we were raised. And so I think that couldn’t be truer for me (…) I’ve learned from the experience of the trauma of everything you shouldn’t do.”

Gypsy actually reflected these thoughts in her first youtube announcementwhere they are strong expressed her wish to give her baby a better life than she had.

“Everything I ever wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” she said in her July 9 pregnancy announcement. “Knowing that I’m a mother now, and I’m happy, and I just want to be a good mother to my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”

In that video, she also joyfully shared that she’s only just pregnant, 11 weeks and counting. Gypsy wore a flowing white dress to make the announcement, telling fans, “Ken and I are expecting our very first child in January 2025. We are both very excited. This was not planned at all, it was totally unexpected. But we are both very excited to start this new journey of parenthood.”

Gypsy previously dated Urker, 31, and was engaged to him while she was in prison, but the couple called it quits in 2019. Following her split from Anderson in the spring, reconnected and we saw that we were very comfortable with each other before later confirming their relationship status.

In June, Gypsy confirmed she is happier than ever since she was released from prison and renewed her relationship with Urker — who recently moved to Louisiana to be closer to her.

“I filed for divorce and I followed my heart to true love,” she said, referring to her current relationship with her former fiancé. “I felt like I made that choice as a free woman. I made that choice as an independent woman and I think everyone should follow their heart.” As for her upcoming divorce proceedings from Anderson, their first hearing is set for later this month.

In May, Gypsy spoke to ET about the divine timing that brought her and Urker back together.

“When my marriage ended and I walked away, that’s when Ken and I reconnected and we started to figure out that in 2019, in 2017, it wasn’t the right time for us,” she told ET of where she and her new boyfriend are now. “Now that I’m out, we can reconnect and see if it’s the right time.”

Gyspy says she is now focusing on her health and happiness and that of her future child. She tells People that they will soon find out the baby’s gender at a gender reveal party, but that she is most interested in having a happy and healthy baby.

“As long as the baby is healthy, I think that’s what everyone wants,” she says.
