The properties include a double-storeyed house and a residential/shop premises. The action was taken under Section 68-F(2) of the NDPS Act, 1985, after an investigation revealed that Rather had illegally acquired the properties through drug trafficking. Rather is currently detained under the PIT NDPS Act and lodged in Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu. Kulgam police have been actively pursuing offenders involved in drug-related activities, with Rather being involved in cases of drug trafficking registered at Qazigund Police Station. The attachment of these properties sends a strong message that police will not tolerate illegal activities involving drugs. The locals of Kulgam district have expressed their support for the police initiative and condemned the drug menace.
Kulgam, July 12: In a relentless effort to curb the menace of drug trafficking, Kulgam police, under the supervision of SSP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS, continued its proactive action against the offenders. Today, properties (one double-storeyed house and one residential/shop premises) measuring 3457 sq ft (worth Rs. 3 crore) belonging to a notorious drug dealer namely Abdul Rashid Rather@Mathur, son of Ghulam Hassan Rather R/O Bonigam Qazigund, Kulgam, were attached under Section 68-F(2) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The properties were identified as illegally acquired properties during the investigation/inquiry conducted by Kulgam police and were prima facie obtained through illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the owner, who is presently detained under PIT NDPS Act and lodged in Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu. The said drug dealer is pertinently involved in case FIR number 128/2020 and case FIR number 227/2023 of Qazigund Police Station.
This action reaffirms the commitment of Kulgam police to combat the drug scourge. The locals of the area have hailed the police initiative in confiscating properties recovered/used from illegal drug trade by drug peddlers in Kulgam district.
