💵 Are there costs attached?

Each Take Back Bag costs $20 up front. Once you fill and send off that big neon bag (shipping included), you’ll get that $30 in rewards. Bonus: You won’t have a huge pile of old clothes in your closet anymore.

❓ What can be put in these bags?

Clothes you want to get rid of, winter coats, sweaters and socks with holes in them, old shoes, pillowcases, bathrobes, backpacks, handbags, and even your old Halloween costume. And that’s just the beginning of the list.

“Anything that really fits in the bag… as long as it doesn’t have an extreme biohazard or soil or something extreme that we can’t recycle,” Trashie CEO Kristy Caylor explained in a recent conversation with TCD.

♻ What happens after I send my Take Back Bag?

The Trashie team inspects and sorts the items in your bag into more than 250 categories, ensuring that approximately 90% of all donations are diverted from landfills. According to the company’s website, approximately 70% of items are reused globally, while more than 20% are recycled into new fibers for things like pet bedding.

In addition, Trashie recycles all returned waste bags.

🌎 How do I help the planet with this program?

According to Trashie, each Take Back Bag prevents 6.8 kilos of textile waste from ending up in landfills.

Or, to put it another way: that’s over 68 kilos of diverted CO2, which is equivalent to *not* burning 34 kilos of coal.

▶ In short: About 85% of all textiles end up in landfills each year, so even small steps we can take by bagging items for recycling programs like Trashie’s can help. And a Trashie Cash reward wouldn’t hurt either.
