Despite his soccer aspirations, Mannion remains committed to Dublin GAA. He has previously spent time away from the panel for personal reasons but has not indicated any plans to step away.

The Kilmacud Crokes player has chosen to play for his local football team in Sandyford, St Marys FC. Mannion is no stranger to the game, having played junior football for Home Farm where he was a real prospect for the team and earned his way to represent Ireland up to U-18 level. He was praised for going far in the sport before settling on the GAA and Dublin.

The news comes hot on the heels of Boys in Blue’s worst All-Ireland Championship campaign in 15 years, when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by The Tribesmen. With Dublin’s early exit, the corner forward has more time to pursue other ventures, including signing for a football team.

St Mary’s shared the news on social media that Mannion would play for the club this season.

The statement read: “We are extremely pleased to announce that Dublin GAA legend Paul Mannion is joining St. Marys FC!”

“Paul, a seven-time All-Ireland champion and three-time All-Star, brings his unrivalled talent, dedication and championship spirit to our pitch.”
