Hall of Fame Newport 2024: Mannarino Leads the FieldHall of Fame Newport 2024: Mannarino Leads the Field The 2024 Hall of Fame Newport tournament, scheduled for July 15-21, will mark the final grass-court tournament on the Tour level. Top Seed: Adrian Mannarino Defending champion Adrian Mannarino returns as the top seed, though his grass-court season has been less successful than last year. If he fails to defend his title, he could drop out of the top 30. Local Favorites Four local players are seeded in the top five, including Alex Michelsen (3rd), Marcos Giron (2nd), and Christopher Eubanks (4th). They will be vying for success on home turf. Other Contenders Young Czech Jakub Mensik and former Next Gen ATP Finals champion Brandon Nakashima are among the players to watch. Local Ambition The tournament has an open draw, giving the local players a clear opportunity to make a deep run. Michelsen could potentially face Mannarino in a rematch of last year’s final. Opelka’s Return Former world number 17 Reilly Opelka is returning to the court after long-term injuries. He received a wildcard entry and will face Constant Lestienne in the first round. Bottom Half of the Draw Giron and Eubanks are the top seeds in the bottom half of the draw. They are the American favorites to reach the potential final.
The 2024 Hall of Fame Newport will take place between July 15 and 21 and will be the last grass-court tournament at the Tour level. After Wimbledon ended, some players quickly traveled to the US to finish grass court before moving to hard courts.
The main draw is led by top-seeded Adrian Mannarino, along with a legion of local players including Marcos Giron, Christopher Eubanks and Alex Michelsen, and the return of former world number 17 Reilly Opelka.
Mannarino leads the field as defending champion
The reigning champion is Adrian Mannarino, the top seed who has a bye in the first round. Unlike 2023, the Frenchman has not had a prolific grass court swing, with just one first-round win at the Libema Open, followed by four straight grass court losses.
Mannarino has dropped several positions in the rankings and if he does not defend his title, he could drop out of the top 30 after more than a year. He will make his debut in the second round against the winner of the match between Reilly Opelka (wildcard) and Constant Lestienne.
Opelka is making his return to the court after long-term injuries to his hip and wrist. The 26-year-old American will compete again in the Newport tournament, more than half a year after his last match at the Charlottesville Challenger.
Local favorites strive for success
Four of the top five players are locals who come to a tournament with an open draw with clear ambitions. Last year’s finalist, Alex Michelsen, will be the third-seeded team and could face Mannarino in a potential semi-final, a repeat of last year’s final.
Marcos Giron (2nd) and Christopher Eubanks (4th) are the top seeds in the bottom half of the draw and are the American favorites to reach a potential final. Other players to consider, however, are young Czech Jakub Mensik and former Next Gen ATP Finals champion Brandon Nakashima.
