The closure is due to “physician coverage problems,” according to the health authority. Only the ER is affected by the diversion. Residents with life-threatening emergencies such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, and severe bleeding should call 911 for ambulance transport to the nearest hospital in Dawson Creek. For less urgent care needs, individuals can schedule an appointment with their family physician or utilize Northern Health’s Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic.

FORT ST. JOHN, BC — Northern Health has announced a detour at Fort St. John Hospital for Sunday evening through Monday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the health authority, the hospital’s emergency room will close at 10 p.m. on July 14 and will not be accessible until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024.

The emergency room was also closed last weekend, Friday and Saturday.

The stated reason for both closures is ‘physician coverage problems’.

Only the Emergency Department has been affected.

While the diversion is in place, residents requiring “life-threatening” emergency care for issues such as difficulty breathing, chest pain and severe bleeding are advised to call 911 so an ambulance can take them to the nearest hospital in Dawson Creek.

People with less urgent care needs are advised to make an appointment with their GP or use Northern Health’s Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic.
