Tammy Slaton has a new career. The 1,000-pound sisters star is a hit on Cameo, the company said.
If you’re not familiar with Cameo, it’s a video platform that lets people request personalized videos and live chats from celebrities. Tammy is currently #8 on the leaderboard, Cameo revealed on Instagram, which means a lot of people want to hear from her. (Tammy, by the way, charges $60 and up for a personalized video.)
That’s not all Tammy is up to: she’s also in talks to do some modeling work, according to The sun“Tammy wants to represent people in her community who have been through the same thing she has,” a source told the newspaper, noting that Tammy was in talks with a few agencies.
Tammy has been working on her poses lately. In May, she shared a photo of herself and a friend poolside, wearing swimsuits.
Tammy, who recently lost 440 pounds, can be seen wearing a blue mermaid-print suit with her legs crossed as she looks up at her friend, psychic medium Haley Michelle. “Proud of you #tammyslatonweightloss,” Michelle wrote in the caption.
People cheered her on in the caption. “Look at this girl! That’s a JOURNEY ,” one person said. “Holy wow! The transformation is incredible! So happy to see how far you’ve come,” another wrote.
Tammy also looked noticeably slimmer in a recent series of new photos she shared on Instagram. (The Kentucky native previously documented her journey to undergo bariatric surgery on her TLC series.)
But the 37-year-old is also getting praise for sharing a rare unfiltered photo of herself on Instagram. It shows Tammy and Haley in a FaceTime call, with Tammy sporting a new pixie cut. “Stay tuned,” they wrote in a joint caption.
Tammy often uses fun filters in her Instagram photos, which makes this a big step for her. “This is the most beautiful picture of you yet!!!” one person wrote. “You look absolutely gorgeous Tammy!!!!!” said another.
Tammy has made many lifestyle changes to get to this point. Here’s what she’s shared about her journey so far.
Tammy says her diet played a role in her weight gain.
Tammy and her 1,000-pound sistersco-star Amy said People in 2023 that they had started gaining weight at a young age. “I’ve always had a weight problem,” she said.
She also revealed that her mother worked three jobs when they were kids, so she and her sister cooked their own meals. “The microwave was our best friend,” Tammy said. “Ramen noodles, bowls of soup, things that were quick and easy — things that added carbs.”
Tammy also said she and her sister “turned to food for comfort” when their grandmother, who had cared for them, died in 1999.
Tammy has openly shared her healthy eating tips.
Tammy regularly communicates with fans on Instagram and opens up about the changes she’s made to her diet to lose weight.
“You eat protein, low carbs, no sugar, no soda, and you control your portions,” she said in a 2023 Instagram post, according to People.
She also revealed on TikTok that she tries to avoid soda. “I don’t drink soda as much anymore,” she said in a post that has since been deleted, per People. “I mean, maybe two 12-ounce cans a day, sometimes not even that. Sometimes just one, sometimes none at all.”
Tammy also said she sticks mostly to tea or sugar-free Gatorade. “I do drink Crystal Light sachets and stuff like that sometimes, but (I mostly) just drink plain water,” she said.
Tammy later shared on Instagram that she was working on her cooking skills. “Even though I can’t eat much, that doesn’t mean my family shouldn’t eat well,” she wrote alongside several dishes she made. “I can finally show off my cooking skills, just call me Chef TT or Chef TamTam lol .”
She exercises regularly.
Tammy told Us Weekly that she has several workout routines that she enjoys. “I like to do chair exercises, weight lifting, bike running, and hiking,” she said.
Tammy lost over 400 pounds during her journey.
Since her series premiered in 2020, Tammy has lost more than half of her previous body weight. She’s lost 440 pounds, down from her peak weight of 725 pounds, she shared People last year.
After making some major changes to her diet, undergoing bariatric surgery in July 2022, and then undergoing a 14-month weight loss rehabilitation program, she currently weighs 285 pounds, according to People.
Tammy regularly shows off her progress on social media, including a recent TikTok showing how far she’s come.
Tammy underwent surgery after a near-death experience.
Tammy said People that she underwent bariatric surgery after a terrifying health experience. Tammy stopped breathing and was placed in a medically induced coma.
“I got wiser and had my surgery,” she said. She was also given permission to stop using oxygen during the day.
“Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine,” she said. “I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.”
She can now walk without assistance.
At the beginning of her journey, Tammy struggled with mobility and relied on a walker or wheelchair, but now she can move around without any aids and no longer needs an oxygen tube to breathe.
“One of the big changes I’ve gone through this past year is probably small to most people, but for me it was huge,” Tammy said People. “Just being able to walk without a walker or being pushed in a wheelchair, and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore.”
Tammy also said she can now sit in the front seat of a regular vehicle and fasten her seat belt without using an extender. “What seems small to some people is huge to me,” she said.
Tammy can now fly a plane.
She shared in a January episode of 1,000-pound sisters that she took an extra precaution before a flight to make sure she would be able to board the plane by purchasing two seats next to each other. But when she sat down, she discovered she could fit in one seat.
Tammy said she was “comfortable” in her seat and was able to buckle her seat belt. “I was a little surprised that I didn’t need both seats that we paid for,” she said.
She is grateful for her new ‘quality of life’.
Tammy is happy with how her life has changed. “My quality of life has changed so much,” she said in a February TikTok. “Before I went to rehab, I was bitter, unhappy, super suicidal, depressed, and just mean. Everyone hated me… and they still do… I had an ‘I don’t care’ attitude back then. I still have that, but it’s not as bad anymore. I’m still working on myself.”
Tammy also said she has a greater appreciation for life and treats herself and others better now. “I’ve personally seen a lot of growth in the way I treat people and my family,” she said. “Just my attitude and how happier I seem. I smile a lot more.”
Tammy also revealed in that video that she recently enjoyed a trip to Disney World. “I went on rides and I went in a hot air balloon,” she said. “Two years ago I wouldn’t have been able to do any of that… I just give myself a pat on the back because I accomplished something. Losing weight and living.”
She wants to have surgery to remove the skin, but she doesn’t have an exact date yet.
In another video from the same month, Tammy shared that she plans to have skin removal surgery at some point, but she’s not sure when exactly. “My ‘chin flap’ is not a chin flap. It’s literally excess skin and yes, it will go away if I have skin removal surgery,” she said in a February TikTok. “I can’t answer, until someone asks, when I’m having skin removal surgery because I don’t know.”
She encourages kindness online.
In the same video, Tammy called out people who made mean comments about her. “Can’t I live my life without y’all judging me, making fun of me for every little thing?” she said. “I can’t sing a duet with my friend without y’all thinking I’m trying to fuck them. I can’t be happy and laugh without y’all judging me for missing my teeth.”
Tammy then encouraged people to be kinder to others. “You don’t understand what people go through,” she said. “I’m very insecure. I hide it because I don’t want people to think I’m weak, and I really am. And when they call me a turkey or talk about my face and my teeth, it bothers me. I’m human.”
She added: “I want people to realize that hating is not okay.”
