The Nevada: A Historic Motel Reborn on Long Sands BeachThe Nevada: A Historic Motel Reborn on Long Sands Beach The Viewpoint Hotel team in Maine has breathed new life into a historic motel on Long Sands Beach in York, transforming it into The Nevada. Originally a 70-year-old motel, The Nevada closed its doors in 2021 and has now been meticulously renovated to embody the spirit of a U.S. Navy ship. Collaborating with CR Design, the new owners, Joe Lipton and Michelle Friar, have preserved the original features of the building, including its distinctive curved shape and wraparound deck. Each of the 21 rooms boasts a private terrace, offering panoramic ocean views. To enhance the guest experience, The Nevada features Lulu’s restaurant and bar, offering 75 seats and an outdoor dining area with cozy fire pits. Thoughtful upgrades have been made, including raising the building on stilts to remove it from the flood zone and installing heat pumps for efficient climate control. Committed to sustainability, The Nevada has partnered with the Green Alliance and donates a portion of each stay to Giving Green. The property employs eco-friendly practices, including using Blueland cleaning products, commercial composting, and bamboo paper products. Lipton and Friar, along with their business partners Chris and Elizabeth Crane, also own the nearby luxury hotel The Viewpoint. The Nevada is expected to complement the upscale offerings at The Viewpoint, and a new spa called The Baths is scheduled to open on The Nevada’s property this summer. This renovation and reopening marks a significant addition to the coastal tourism landscape of Maine, providing visitors and locals alike with a unique and memorable experience.

US: The hotel team behind Maine’s The Viewpoint hotel has renovated and reopened a historic motel on Long Sands Beach in York as The Nevada.
The Nevada was relocated from a 70-year-old motel of the same name. The former business closed in 2021.
Designed by CR Design in collaboration with new owners Joe Lipton and Michelle Friar, The Nevada retains many of its original features resembling a U.S. Navy ship. The curved building includes a wraparound deck, giving each of the 21 rooms a private terrace.
Amenities include Lulu’s restaurant and bar with 75 seats. An outdoor dining area has fire pits.
Additional measures were taken to raise the building on stilts so that it was no longer in the flood zone. Heat pumps (for heating and air conditioning) were also installed in every room and hot water boilers with a recirculation pump were installed.
The Nevada is also a member of the Green Alliance and donates a portion of each stay to Giving Green, which directs money to evidence-backed projects. The Nevada partners with Clean The World and uses Blueland cleaning products, commercial composting, and bamboo paper products.
Owners Lipton and Friar, along with business partners Chris and Elizabeth Crane, also own the nearby luxury hotel The Viewpoint. A new spa called The Baths will launch on the property this summer.
