Greater Bendigo Deputy Mayor Matt Evans will officially open the refurbished building on Friday, July 19th, at 3 pm. The redevelopment aimed to create a flexible and inclusive space for various user groups and community members. The refurbishment focused on enhancing facilities for female sports participants and modernizing the building to meet current standards. The completed phase two includes: * Facilities for the relocation of Strathfieldsaye Bowls Club and 1st Strathfieldsaye Scout Group to the main building * Extension to enhance visual connection with bowling alleys * Renovated spaces for social functions * New kitchen and canteen facilities * Meeting, storage, and office spaces * New toilet facilities Phase one, completed in 2022, provided female-friendly facilities for the growing number of female sports participants, funded by the city, a Victorian Government grant, and contributions from local sports clubs. Phase two funding came from the City of Greater Bendigo and a grant to the 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts from the Victorian Government. Phase three, still in the planning stages, will focus on improving the broader area, including parking, landscaping, pedestrian access, and additional sports infrastructure. The Strathfieldsaye Community Hub is home to various user groups, including sports clubs, scouts, and the community. The facility is available for lease through the primary tenant groups and the Management Committee.
The second phase of the $3 million redevelopment of the Strathfieldsaye Community Hub’s flagship building, Club Court, is now complete and will be officially opened by Greater Bendigo Deputy Mayor Matt Evans on Friday 19 July at 3pm.
City of Greater Bendigo Director of Healthy Communities and Environments Stacy Williams said the City worked closely with user groups to develop a flexible building, with inclusive and accessible spaces that can be shared and used by a wide range of users and community members.
“The refurbishment work focused on creating facilities suitable for female sports participants and modernising the building to bring it up to current standards and provide better connections to the wider area,” said Ms Williams.
“Strathfieldsaye now has a multi-purpose, inclusive and accessible centre that provides a range of community functions and activities and the facilities needed to support greater participation and accessibility for all.
“The recently completed Phase Two works included the redevelopment of the remainder of the building, including club facilities to support the relocation of Strathfieldsaye Bowls Club and 1st Strathfieldsaye Scout Group from their current locations to the main building.
“These include an extension to the building to enhance the visual connection with the bowling alleys, renovation of spaces for social functions, new kitchen and canteen facilities, meeting, storage and office spaces and new toilet facilities.
“Phase one was completed in 2022 and focused on providing female-friendly facilities to cater for the growing number of female sporting participants. This first phase was funded by the city, along with a $100,000 grant from the Victorian Government and contributions from Sedgwick Cricket Club and Colts United Football Club.
“The work for Stage Two was carried out over several financial years and funded by the City of Greater Bendigo, supplemented by $250,000 from 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts, who received a grant from the Victorian Government.
“The City is still working towards completing Phase Three of the project, which is about improving the broader area. The final phase includes improvements to parking, landscaping, pedestrian access and additional sports infrastructure, ensuring the space is accessible to everyone in the community and can be used for a variety of purposes. While the final phase as a whole is unfunded and subject to future budget approvals, funding has been provided in the current budget year for the design of additional external sports infrastructure.”
The Strathfieldsaye Community Hub caters to a number of user groups, with Colts United Football Club, Sedgwick Cricket Club, 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts and Strathfieldsaye Bowls Club as primary tenants. Other occupiers include Emu Creek Cricket Club, Strathfieldsaye Tennis Club and Strathfieldsaye Dodgers.
The facility is available for lease to the community through the primary tenant groups and the Management Committee.
