July 18, 2024 – Press Release from the American Association (AA)
The American Association of Professional Baseball season continues this weekend with a full slate of series, all live for free on aabaseball.tv. All eyes are on the All-Star Game, which takes place Tuesday in Kansas City.
Here are about 10 things you need to know about the AAPB this week:
The AAPB will host the Futures Tryout Camp in conjunction with the 2024 All-Star Game on Monday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homefield Baseball Complex in Kansas City, Kansas. This will be a pro-style tryout camp for prospects 18 and older and will feature scouts from each of the 12 American Association clubs. Additionally, MLB scouts are invited to attend. Please note that this is a limited space event. Register here.
Speaking of Tuesday’s All-Star Game, the votes for the Last Man In are in, with Miles Simington of the Winnipeg Goldeyes joining the West team and Nick Dalesandro representing his Chicago Dogs on the East team. 2024 will mark the first time the Monarchs will host the American Association All-Star Game. It will be the first all-star game at Legends Field since the 2006 Northern League All-Star Game.
Iowa State representative and current Sioux City Explorer J.D. Scholten returns to the mound Friday when the Explorers take on the first-place Sioux Falls Canaries at Mercy One Field in Lewis and Clark Park. It’s the third start for the 44-year-old Sioux City native, who is 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings pitched so far. The night includes a T-shirt giveaway featuring Scholten’s jersey #50.
AAPB is all about the fans, after all, and that fact is not lost on Cleburne Railroaders manager and 12-year Major Leaguer Pete Incaviglia. On July 4, he had the chance to reunite with Nathan Hall, who as a young fan had attended a Rangers game in 1989 with his grandmother (his “Nenaw”) and had a special chat with the outfielder during a pre-game autograph session. The Railroaders chronicled the story on their website here , and it’s worth a read!
For families, the AAPB isn’t just a great value—it’s also a lot of fun. Influencer website DaddysGrounded.com listed the 10 reasons why the Chicago Dogs are our family’s favorite Chicago team. Here’s a taste: The No. 1 answer is “Low-Stress Outing,” a sentiment closer Joey Marciano (15 saves) might disagree with when it comes to protecting a late-game lead…
SportsBusiness Journal reported this week that the AAPB has reached an agreement with Fubo Sports to broadcast games, in addition to the AABaseball.tv broadcasts. More on that to come!
Vinny Nittoli is back in the bigs, selected by the Orioles and thrown directly into a game against the rival Yankees on Saturday, tossing two scoreless, one-hit frames. Nittoli played for St. Paul during the AAPB run in 2017 and 2018 and has appeared in games for five MLB teams since then.
Patrick Weigel, who played for the Kansas City Monarchs last season and collected 10 saves in 35 innings of work, signed with the Cincinnati Reds this week and was assigned to Double-A Chattanooga, where he threw a perfect inning in his debut. Weigel has pitched in the majors for the Braves and Brewers and spent this season with Saltillo of the Mexican League.
In addition to the competition for the X’s Scholten T-shirt, there are also a number of fun theme evenings on the programme:
Friday, “Score Some Cash”, Sioux City
Saturday, “Christmas in July”, Kane County
Saturday, “Jimmy Buffett Night,” Chicago Dogs
Sunday, “Bluey with Bluey and Bingo”, Kane County
