Perfect weather on Saturday welcomed the Radical Cup North America competitors for day two in Toronto. With a busy Friday seeing teams and competitors take part in practice, qualifying and race one, Saturday was reserved for just one session on the track in race two. Topping the results sheets were Jon Field in the Platinum class, Jordan Missig in Pro 1500, Mayer Deonarine in Pro 1340, Kenny Riedmann in RCC130 and Tim Sanderson in RCC Masters.
Platinum
After a disappointing finish in race one on Friday, Field returned with a vengeance on Saturday, posting the fastest lap of the weekend so far to take the win under yellow ahead of Friday’s winner Wayne Williams, who is having a career-making weekend in the Radical Cup. Canadian driver Kevin Poitras found his way to the third and final step of the Platinum class podium in race two with Louis Schriber in fourth. Schriber, who is still struggling with a rebuilt car after a qualifying crash, will stand on the podium in race three on Sunday. Scott Wagner was fifth on the timesheets ahead of Chip Romer and Jim Booth, who won the Sunoco Hard Charger of the Race award.
Before 1500
Missig made it two for two on the weekend, leading a one-two finish for Graham Rahal Performance in race two. Despite finishing behind the safety car, Missig led the overall race early but was passed by the Platinum class winner and held on to add another win to his resume as he challenges for the Pro 1500 championship. Behind the pair of GRP drivers was the EVR Motorsports machine of Evan Slater, who took his second podium finish in as many races. Matt Romer and Gold class winner Corey Neveau rounded out the top five.
Before 1340
RySpec Racing and Deonarine took their second win of the weekend, this time in dramatic fashion. Deonarine ran in second place for most of the race and took the lead just before the yellow flag was waved. He took advantage of the caution period when he drove behind the safety car for the win. Graham Rahal Performance driver Suellio Almeida was second on track, just ahead of Crown Racing with Apex champion Chris McMurry. Mike Anzaldi of RYNO Racing with Team Stradale just missed out on the podium in P4, while Seth Bacon crossed the line in fifth.
RCC-1340
Riedmann matched his result from Friday and topped the RCC 1340 podium to take his second win of the weekend. Riedmann, who hails from Ontario, Canada, is on a roll at the Streets of Toronto and will be looking to make it three out of three on Sunday. Brady Clapham joined Riedmann on the podium in second place, just ahead of Travis Hill in third, Owen Clarke in fourth and Chris Styles in fifth.
RCC Masters
In the RCC Masters class, Sanderson led Robert Burgess to the chequered flag, with Jon Sobol rounding out the podium in third. Liang Qiu was the best of the rest in fourth, with John Hughes fifth and looking to improve on that result tomorrow.
