Okotoks Dawgs Shine at 2024 WCBL All-Star GameOkotoks Dawgs Shine at 2024 WCBL All-Star Game Over 6,000 fans filled Okotoks’ Seaman Stadium for the 2024 WCBL All-Star festivities, where the Eastern All-Stars emerged victorious with a 13-6 win over the Western All-Stars. Prior to the game, the Dawgs announced the selection of Graham Brunner to the All-Star roster, making it a total of 10 Dawgs players participating in the event. Brunner took to the mound in the first inning, promptly striking out an Eastern batter. Garrett Maloney also saw limited action, notching a strikeout during his brief appearance. Tucker Zdunich took the mound for the West in the ninth inning, adding another strikeout to the team’s tally. At the plate, Thompson contributed a run late in the game, while Zdunich earned an RBI and Crowson went two for two. Luther, Grant, and Eiseman also managed walks during the game. Before the game, Peyton McDowall of the Fort MacMurray Giants claimed victory in the SR Bats Home Run Derby Championship, with Crowell showcasing his power with five home runs. Carter Beck of the Saskatoon Berries was named the game’s MVP. The Dawgs will face the Fort McMurray Giants again tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.
Okotoks saw 6,064 baseball fans descend on Seaman Stadium tonight for the 2024 WCBL All-Star festivities. The Eastern All-Stars won the game 13-6 over the Western All-Stars.
The Dawgs announced before the game that Graham Brunner had also been selected to the All-Star game and would start for the West.
With Brunner being named to the All-Star game, a total of 10 Dawgs participated in the day. Tucker Zdunich, Connor Crowson, Logan Grant, Nash Crowell, Brendan Luther, Barry Eiseman, Garrett Maloney, Chase Tucker and Seth Thompson were the other nine Dawgs players selected.
Brunner would knock out an Eastern All-Stars batter while pitching early in the first inning. Maloney would be called up for only a third of an inning and would make a K while on the mound.
Tucker would be the last pitcher for the West Side to get a K himself at the start of the ninth. Thompson, who pitches, was called in to bat and cashed in a run at the end of the game.
Zdunich picked up an RBI that night and Crowson went two for two. Luther would get one hit that night with Grant and Eiseman each getting a walk.
The Home Run Derby was held before the game and saw Peyton McDowall of the Fort MacMurray Giants win the SR Bats Home Run Derby Championship. Crowell would hit five home runs during the competition.
Carter Beck of the Saskatoon Berries won the 2023 WCBL All-Star Game MVP award.
The Dawgs play the Fort McMurray Giants again tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.
