Details of the Deceased The deceased has been identified as Tankeshwar Bora, a resident of Kathiatoli village in the Kampur area of Nagaon district. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati for several days. JE Death Toll Rises With Bora’s death, the death toll from JE in Assam in July has risen to nine. Previously, eight cases had been reported, including one each in Jorhat and Kamrup districts, three in Sivsagar district, one in Sonitpur district, and two in Dhemaji district. Widespread JE Cases Over 100 cases of Japanese encephalitis have been reported in various districts of Assam so far. In the past 48 hours, two people have succumbed to the disease, including a 12-year-old girl. JE Transmission JE is a viral brain infection transmitted through mosquito bites. The virus originates in pigs and birds and is carried by mosquitoes that feed on infected animals. On Sunday, one more person died in Guwahati from Japanese encephalitis (JE), taking the total number of deaths from the vector-borne disease to nine.
The deceased has been identified as Tankeshwar Bora.
He lived in Kathiatoli village in Kampur area of Nagaon.
According to information, Bora was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati for the past few days.
With Bora’s death, the death toll from JE in Assam in July rose to 9.
Of the eight cases, one death was recorded each in Jorhat and Kamrup districts, three in Sivsagar district, one in Sonitpur district and two in Dhemaji district, according to data from the state vector-borne diseases control unit under the National Health Mission.
So far, more than 100 patients with Japanese encephalitis have been found in different districts of the state.
Earlier, two people had already died in the past 48 hours, including a 12-year-old girl.
Madhury Manowa (12) from Amsoi in Morigaon district died at Guwahati Medical College Hospital and Rakesh Rag Gogoi (37), a singer from Dergaon in Golaghat, died during treatment at Assam Medical College.
JE is a viral brain infection that spreads through mosquito bites. The virus found in pigs and birds is passed on to mosquitoes when they bite infected animals.
