His vehicle lacked OnStar or a cell phone, and he had no sense of direction. Social media posts featuring photos of Skogen and a similar vehicle were circulated, seeking public assistance. Within hours, Skogen was located near Ocheyedan, Iowa, in good condition. Authorities received assistance in the search from Community First Broadcasting stations KUOO in Spirit Lake and KKOJ in Jackson.
Ocheyedan, Iowa — An elderly man with dementia who was reported missing from Jackson County, Minnesota, on Thursday has been found safe in northwest Iowa.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the man, Ordell Skogen of Jackson, was reported missing Thursday afternoon. They say he left his home in a red 2016 Toyota Rav 4 heading in an unknown direction. Police say the vehicle did not have service such as OnStar and he did not have a cell phone. They say Skogen has no sense of direction.
Photos of a similar vehicle and of Skogen were shared on social media, and the office asked people to contact them if they had any information.
He was found a few hours later near Ocheyedan and was said to be in good condition.
