While working on a utility pole, he came into contact with live wires, resulting in a fatal power surge. Paramedics attempted to revive Kloesel, but he succumbed to his injuries. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a bright spark, indicating a surge of electricity on the wires. Investigators are investigating the exact cause of the accident. CPS Energy expressed its deep sympathies to Kloesel’s family and loved ones. The company’s spokesperson stated that they would not provide details about the accident while the investigation was ongoing. Crew members who witnessed the incident were visibly distraught and emotional. Colleagues and family members were seen openly weeping and supporting each other. Another team of investigators arrived later to examine the area where the accident occurred. SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – CPS Energy released a statement Tuesday afternoon regarding the electrocution at work of one of its employees.

In the email sent to KSAT 12 News, a spokesperson acknowledged the passing of one of the company’s employees and sent condolences to family members and loved ones.

The worker, identified by Bexar County coroners as Clayton Kloesel, 32, died early Tuesday morning while working to restore power to a western Bexar County neighborhood.

According to a report from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Kloesel was one of several CPS Energy crews called to the Pencheron Pass neighborhood, near Culebra Road and Talley Road, for power outages in the area.

Officers responded to a call for assistance around 5:30 a.m. and found Kloesel dead.

According to a sheriff’s investigator on the scene, crew members told him they believed the power had gone out when Kloesel climbed a utility pole.

At one point, however, they saw a bright spark, indicating a power surge on the electrical wires, the researcher said.

Kloesel was electrocuted.

According to the researcher, colleagues tried to resuscitate Kloesel, but he died.

Afterwards, several people wearing yellow CPS Energy vests and helmets were seen reacting to the news of his death by holding their heads and openly weeping.

Another team that showed up later appeared to be investigating the area where Kloesel had died.

The company would not provide details about the accident or what may have gone wrong.
