Tragic Truck Driver Death in CebuTragic Truck Driver Death in Cebu A 17-year-old truck driver, Jose Jorie, lost his life in a tragic accident in Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga, Cebu on July 27, 2024. According to investigations by the Sibonga Police Station, Jorie was sleeping on the roof of the delivery van while the driver and another driver were sleeping in the front seat. On Saturday morning, at around 6:35 a.m., Jorie was instructed to get down so the driver could move the vehicle. However, shortly after the driver started driving, he witnessed Jorie falling to the ground. Municipal emergency personnel promptly transported Jorie to Deiparine Community Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the van is currently detained at the Sibonga police station. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
A truck driver has died after falling from a van.
The incident occurred after 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, near a gas station in Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga, Cebu.
The victim was identified as Jose Jorie, 17, of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.
Investigations at the Sibonga Police Station revealed that on Friday, July 26 at around 11:50pm, the victim was sleeping on the roof of the van while the driver and another truck driver were sleeping on the front seat as they waited for the opening of Prince Hypermart where they were to deliver the Nestlé products.
The next day at 6:35 a.m., the victim was told by his fellow truck driver to get downstairs so the driver could move the vehicle.
However, the truck driver was shocked when, after driving the van about 15 meters from the parking lot, he saw the victim fall to the ground.
The victim was taken to Deiparine Community Hospital by municipal emergency personnel, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver is currently being held at the Sibonga police station. (DVG, TPT)
