From September 27th, 2024 to April 29th, 2025, “Chihuly in the Botanic Garden” will showcase a series of stunning hand-blown glass sculptures and installations, immersing visitors in a vibrant and ethereal world of artistic expression. A Symphony of Glass in Nature’s Embrace This unique outdoor exhibition features 15 large-scale masterpieces that float amidst lush garden beds, emerge from serene waterways, and intertwine with majestic trees along a 2-kilometer garden path. Each sculpture bears the unmistakable mark of Chihuly’s artistic genius, showcasing his signature techniques of fire, blown glass, and vibrant colors. Some of his most iconic works, such as the “Sapphire Star,” will take center stage, alongside brand-new pieces created exclusively for Adelaide. Experiences for Every Art Enthusiast In addition to the free garden trail, visitors can enhance their experience with “In Full Color: Dale Chihuly” and “Chihuly Nights” ticket options. “In Full Color” offers an intimate showcase of smaller works, providing a fascinating glimpse into Chihuly’s artistic process and inspiration. “Chihuly Nights” grants exclusive after-dark access, allowing guests to bask in the ethereal glow of the illuminated sculptures against the backdrop of Adelaide’s starlit skyline. A Cultural Landmark for South Australia South Australia’s Tourism Minister, Zoe Betison, hailed “Chihuly in the Botanic Garden” as a testament to the state’s world-class cultural events and widely accessible arts offerings. The exhibition promises to attract visitors from near and far, offering multiple opportunities to experience a beloved natural attraction in a completely new light. A Botanical and Artistic Sanctuary Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Director, Michael Harvey, expressed his delight in hosting Chihuly’s exhibition. He emphasized the perfect synergy between the artist’s nature-inspired works and the botanical wonderland of the Adelaide Botanic Garden. The exhibition will showcase Chihuly’s mastery of light, form, and color, creating a kaleidoscopic celebration that honors the beauty and diversity of the natural world.

Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is Australia’s first major outdoor exhibition of the work of Dale Chihuly, a celebrated contemporary glass artist.

The unique event will take place from September 27 to April 29, 2025 and is part of the artist’s world-famous series of nature-inspired exhibitions.

“I have been looking for an opportunity to return to Adelaide since 2000 when I first presented work at Jam Factory,” said Dale Chihuly. “Adelaide Botanic Garden offers so much rich colour and texture – the ideal environment to display my work, and I look forward to sharing this new exhibition with the South Australian community.”

Floating in lush garden beds, emerging from waterways and intertwining with trees along a 2km garden path, the collection of 15 large-scale, hand-blown glass art sculptures and installations features some of Chihuly’s most iconic works and also includes brand new pieces created especially for Adelaide.

In addition to the free garden trail, guests can also participate in the In full color: Dale Chihuly And Chihuly Nights ticket options.

In full color: Dale Chihuly is a curated showcase of more intimate groupings. The immersive exhibition includes an exploration of his artistic process and fascinating insights into the creation of the unique, playful and daring works that are seen around the world.

Chihuly Nights offers an indispensable all-access pass for the complete Chihuly experience in a dynamic after-dark setting.

“Chihuly at the Botanic Garden embodies the world-class calibre and widely accessible nature of South Australia’s premier major events calendar, particularly its rich cultural component,” said South Australia Tourism Minister Zoe Betison.

“Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is the first major outdoor exhibition of Chihuly’s work in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. It offers visitors of all ages, from near and far, a choice of free and paid-for opportunities to experience a cherished natural attraction in a whole new way.

“Furthermore, its longevity through spring, summer and autumn, along with some of our longest running tourist attractions the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival, lends itself to multiple visits, to explore these truly extraordinary sculptures against the changing colours of each season.”
