The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has launched a massive crackdown on unauthorised resorts near Arnala Beach, following the orders of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The swift action follows a tragic incident in which Milind More, son of former Shiv Sena (UbT) district chief Raghunath More, had gone to a resort in Arnala Beach. While leaving the resort, he got into an altercation with a rickshaw driver, after which he collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival and stated that a heart attack was the prima facie cause.

The demolition drive, which began early this morning, has already resulted in the razing of several illegal structures. When Chief Minister Shinde visited More’s family in Thane and came to know about the circumstances surrounding his death, he immediately directed the Vasai-Virar Municipal Commissioner to take strict action against all unauthorized resorts in the area. Local residents had repeatedly complained to the civic body about these illegally run resorts and demanded that they be closed down. It was only after the Chief Minister’s directive to take action against these resorts that the operation was launched. Since morning, the civic body has been carrying out demolition drives against these and many other unauthorized resorts and the operation is expected to continue.
