France’s leading weather agency has issued a “yellow alert” for Paris, the second of four warning levels, due to the expected hot conditions during the Summer Olympics. An even higher orange warning is in place for Bordeaux and Lyon, where temperatures are predicted to reach close to 40C (104F). The warning for Paris is specifically due to the forecast of “very hot” conditions persisting overnight, with temperatures not expected to drop below 22C (72F) between Tuesday and Wednesday. Orange heatwave warnings have also been issued for several regions across the country, including Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Corsica, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Health experts have warned that the lack of air conditioning in public transport and crowded vehicles during rush hour can pose a risk of dehydration and heatstroke, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with respiratory conditions. Tourists are advised to take precautions to stay hydrated and cool, such as drinking plenty of fluids, wearing loose-fitting clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day.
