The mechanism established to promote consensus among the parties is led by Ramesh Lekhak of the Nepali Congress, Mahesh Bartaula of the UML, and Janardan Sharma of the Maoist Centre. “The parties are almost done with finalizing the TRC law. After further deliberations, we expect to sign the agreement on Thursday,” said a leader of CPN-UML. The transitional justice process in Nepal has been a complex and challenging one, but the latest agreement marks a significant step forward. KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Maoist Centre are on the verge of finalising the transitional justice bill.

According to sources, they agreed on all provisions except one major point.

If this latest agreement holds, Nepal’s 18-year peace process could formally conclude.

Previous milestones have been achieved, such as the adjustment of the army, arms control and the drafting of a constitution.

The leaders of these parties have resolved nearly three of the four points crucial to amending the Investigation, Truth, and Reconciliation Commission Act of 2071.

“The parties are almost done with finalizing the TRC law. After further deliberations, we expect to sign the agreement on Thursday,” said a leader of CPN-UML.

The mechanism, comprising Ramesh Lekhak of the Nepali Congress, Mahesh Bartaula of the UML and Janardan Sharma of the Maoist Centre, was set up to promote consensus among the main parties.
